If you are coming to pick up your cadet on a Friday at lunchtime for an Open Weekend, please look for Parent Council members in the Military Office. We would LOVE to meet you, find out how you and your son doing, and answer any questions you may have. We will be available starting at 12 noon (check-out is 12:30pm), so come look for our “HMA Parent Council” sign and PC members wearing their name tags. Hope to see you on one of the following Fridays: 02/07, 02/28, 03/20 (start of Spring Break), 04/10, and 05/01.
Coach Martin Reaches Career Milestone
In just his 111th game as head coach of the Tigers, Martin earned his 100th career victory, all before his 30th birthday. "It's a surreal feeling," remarked Martin. "I have been extremely fortunate in my time here to be surrounded by great players and great people. This a huge honor and I'm very humbled."
Hargrave Hike
Members of the Corps of Cadets participated in a Saturday morning hike. The Hike was 3.1 miles long and took the cadets throughout the beautiful 200+ acre Hargrave campus. Although it was a brisk morning with a little frost on the ground, the cadets quickly warmed up and found motivation through the unity of the Corps to complete the hike. Each cadet carried with them a rucksack full of items and rifles as they ran, jogged, and walked the hilly course. The hike is in preparation of the upcoming Eye of the Tiger competition where cadets will be challenged mentally and physically. Upon completion, the cadets enjoyed donuts, Gatorade, and camaraderie. It was a great way to start the day!
Swim at State Swim Championships
The qualifying members of the Hargrave Swimming team took the trip to Christiansburg, VA, to compete in the VISAA State Swimming Championship over the weekend. Throughout a weekend of great competition, the Tigers emerged proud of their performance to cap off the 2019-2020 season. Hargrave placed 13th overall in the state (out of 45 teams that qualified for the Championship meet). Hargrave finished 3rd out of 27 teams in our Division (Divison 2). It was an outstanding performance, both as a team and individuals, to round out an incredible season!
Valentine's Day Win
Keeping with tradition, the infirmary rolled out another candy give away to brighten our cadets' Valentine's Day. Cadets had to guess the correct amount of candy hearts in a jar. Cadet Emerson was the winner!
Winter Fun Day
Last Wednesday, cadets were treated to a morning of relaxation and entertainment in the gymnasium to break the winter doldrums. Starting off the morning and possibly the highlight of hilarity for the day, was a failed attempt by Cadet Higden to pie Colonel Morris. Cadets enjoyed various inflatable stations including a life-sized hungry hippos game, an obstacle course, a mechanical bull, and even American Gladiator-styled jousting. Several action packed events also occurred including raffles, a half court contest, ping-pong, basketball and cornhole. The morning ended with a catered lunch in the gym by Sage Dining Services. The Parent's Council also set up a pizza station for any cadets who needed a little more fuel for the fun!
