2nd Semester Matriculation

13 new cadets joined the Hargrave family as they matriculated into the Corps of Cadets. These cadets came to us from Virginia, North Carolina, Ohio, Maryland, New York, Florida, and Georgia. In addition, a new international student joined the Corps from China. To facilitate a smooth transition and to allow time for training and orientation ahead of starting classes on Monday, our new cadets arrived on Thursday. Upon arrival they were paired with older, experienced cadets who were assigned to mentor them and to facilitate their successful launch into life at Hargrave.

As part of their orientation, the new cadets were checked in through the various offices of the school and then taken to the Quartermaster where they were fitted for their uniforms and shown the proper way to wear them. The new students were then given a tour of campus and introduced to their assigned companies. Over the next several days, our new cadets will finish their orientation and training to become fully integrated into the Corps of Cadets.

There’s lots of excitement and energy as new cadets continue to join the Hargrave family. The next matriculation date for new students is February 2nd. The admissions office is excited to be working with so many families who are eager to have their sons join Hargrave so they can turn their potential into opportunity!

Lunch and Learn: Virginia Military Institute

The Hargrave Community welcomed back one of their own, as Joshua Dolan, Class of 2019, returned to represent Virginia Military Institute (VMI) during a Lunch and Learn session. Our cadets were able to interact with a former cadet about the transition from Hargrave to college and what life is like for a freshman at VMI.

Higdon Shatters Swimming Record

On Wednesday afternoon, as the Tigers hosted Virginia Episcopal School and Chatham Hall, junior, Nathan Higdon took to the water and gave a truly awe-inspiring performance in the 100 yard Breaststroke. The Hargrave record, which was set in 2003, was previously 1:03.28. Higdon swam the event on Wednesday in 1:01.59. "Incredible. Absolutely incredible," stated Head Coach, Amanda Weishaar. "Nathan has been a leader for us all year and I'm so proud to see him continue to improve and earn some much deserved recognition for his efforts." According to Higdon, "It was awesome to learn I broke a school record! I just swam as hard as a I could and tried to do my best for the team. Breaking a school record was just the icing on the cake." In addition to Higdon's record-breaking performance, he also qualified for state in the 100 yard freestyle which is the fifth event he's qualified at the state level for this season.

Parent Council Awaits Cadets at the Finish Line

After finishing exams for the semester, the HMA Parents Council treated cadets to an ice-cream buffet. The extensive list of treats included cookies, brownies, five flavors of ice cream, and endless toppings. The sweet rewards were offered by our dedicated Hargrave Parent Council. What a way to end the week!

Hargrave Military Academy pleased to announce Frank Thomas '87 as Head Baseball Coach.
